Adverse weather conditions seriously affected the lastest round of  West Cork Masters League fixtures sponsored by O'Brien's Bar Rosscarbery  writes Ger McCarthy.

BUNRATTY END SEASON ON A HIGH
Rosscarbery 1 Burnatty United 3

Bunratty United concluded their 2012 summer league schedule with a well deserved 3-1 victory away to Rosscarbery in Carrigroe. The home side were without some of their first choice regulars yet still managed to break the deadlock on the quarter hour when top scorer Geoff Wycherley connected with a Sean Linehan free-kick. United refused to panic and dominated possession for much of the second period before Terence O'Reilly drew the sides level with a neat finish. Bunratty moved 2-1 in front courtesy of a converted Ger O'Donovan penalty before Derek Whelton clinched the points with his side's third and final strike.

Goalkeeper Damian Murphy, Ian Holding, Peter Hayes and Patrick Hurley impressed for a battling Rosscarbery while Noel O'Donoghue, Tony Sheehan Jeremy Brosnan and Larry Sheehan stood out for Bunratty. Prior to kick-off both teams gave Rosscarbery captain Mike Keohane a guard of honour following his fantastic achievement of winning two gold and three bronze medals at the recent Europran Transplant games in Croatia.

CLOUGHDUV HIT AFC FOR SIX
Cloughduv Celtic 6 Clonakilty AFC 2

Cloughduv Celtic heaped the pressure on Drinagh Rangers to get a result in Tuesday night's encounter away to Castletown Celtic with a comfortable 6-2 victory at home to Clonakilty AFC. Celtic will finally relinquish their league crown to Drinagh if the Canon Crowley Park club avoid defeat in Castletownkenneigh. Cloughduv proved too strong for a gallant Clonakilty on Wednesday night to move 4 points behind the league leaders with just two rounds of games remaining.

Martin McCarthy's 2nd minute strike handed the hosts an early lead. West Cork Masters top goalscorer, Donal Collins quickly added a brace to leave Celtic 3-0 ahead before the 10th minute had elapsed. Clonakilty AFC regrouped following a torrid opening and Lorne Edmead pulled one back for the visitors to leave the score 3-1 at the interval. The pattern of the second period remained the same with Cloughduv looking dangerous on the attack and Clonakilty having to defend deep. Clement Doyle extended Cloughduv's advantage before Donal Collins completed his hat-trick and took his personal tally to 13 goals in all competitions for the season. Credit to Clonakilty AFC who responded once again with George Birlia finding the net for the plucky visitors before Dermot Desmond concluded the evening's scoring with his side's 6th.

Best for Cloughduv included Donal Collins, John Madden and Dermot Desmond with Lorne Edmead and George Birlia the pick of Clonakilty AFC's top performers.

TWO TOWNS SETTLE FOR A POINT
Clonakilty Town 1 Dunmanway Town 1

Dunmanway Town warmed up for their West Cork Masters Shield final against Ardfield with a 1-1 draw away to Clonakilty Town in Darrara. The home side began the match with only 10 players and were reduced to 9 for much of the second half after Karl Kurowski received his marching orders. Despite their lack of numbers Clonakilty Town produced an heroic defensive display to repel a succession of Dunmanway attacks before finally conceding an equaliser late in the game.

The opening period saw Dunmanway dominate territory and had Kevin Hurley's loud appeals for a goal waved away before falling behind to a rare Clonakilty counter-attack. The home side grabbed a shock lead  when Karl Kurowski connected with a close range header to send Town in 1-0 up at the break. A straight red for the same player shortly after the resumption meant for a lop-sided second half with Dunmanway using their numerical advantage to pummel the Clonakilty Town goal.

John Leahy's goalkeeping heroics along with goal-line clearances from Jason Kidney and brave Michael Hurley defending looked to have earned the home side the unlikeliest of wins until Kieran O'Leary's corner kick sailed all the way into the net. Best for Dunmanway Town included Danny May, Kieran O'Leary and Kevin Hurley while lone-striker Pat Walsh played a blinder for Clon Town and even had a goal ruled out for offside during an all-action display.
