Round4 of the West Cork Masters League sponsored by O'Brien's Bar Rosscarbery saw two games completed on Tuesday evening writes Ger McCarthy.
Cloughduv Celtic 2 Ardfield 2
The reigning West Cork Masters League champions Cloughduv Celtic dropped their first points of the new campaign following an incident-packed 2-2 draw at home to Ardfield. There was little to choose between the sides during a keenly fought opening 30 minutes in which Martin McCarthy's effort from the edge of the area sent Cloughduv in 1-0 up at the half-time break. Ardfield's back four defended superbly during a tough second period before the Carrigroe based club drew level with 5 minutes to go thanks to a cracking drive from Michael O'Mahony. The game looked set to conclude 1-1 until the award of a penalty offered Cloughduv an opportunity to retake the lead 2 minutes from full time. Mervyn Beasley made no mistake from the ensuing penalty kick but Ardfield refused to accept defeat and a superb Gary Smith goal earned his side a point right on full time. Best for Celtic included John Madden, Mervyn Beasley and Donal O'Sullivan while Ardfield's top performers included John Powell, Peter Gough and Damian Dooley.
Rosscarbery 0 Dunmanway Town 4
Dunmanway Town moved up into fourth place in the league table following a 4-0 victory away to Rosscarbery in Carrigroe on Tuesday evening. John Collins broke the deadlock for the visitors with a headed opener but Rosscarbery defended manfully and were only a goal behind at the break. Dunmanway moved up a gear in the second half with the in-form Kevin Hurley bagging a brace of goals to cement a welcome 3 points for the Mohona based club. John Kelly wrapped up a comprehensive win with a fine individual effort late on. Best for Rosscarbery included Ray Hayes, Gordon O'Dwyer and Bart Kerrisk while Kevin Hurley, Danny May, Joe O'Donnell and Richie Collins stood out for Dunmanway Town.
